Every Friday at 5pm AFTRS brings you the best and brightest from the screen arts and broadcast industry to discuss ideas and topics of relevance. So why not wind up your week with some fresh food for the mind…

This week Friday June 1: Jill Bilcock ASE and the Final Cut

One name ties together high profile directors such as Sam Mendes, Shekhar Kapur, Baz Luhrmann, Fred Schepisi, PJ Hogan and Ana Kokkinos and that’s the extraordinary talent of Award winning editor Jill Bilcock. Having been celebrated many times over locally and internationally through numerous awards, nominations and associations, Jill Bilcock can only be described as a national treasure. Jill’s outstanding skill has helped shape the success of feature films including Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Elizabeth, Road to Perdition, Muriel’s Wedding, Evil Angels, The Dish, Blessed and most recently the box office hit Red Dog…and that’s to name a few.
 Jill will provide insights into her editing process through selected clips and talk about the editor’s unique role in influencing performance and building drama and emotion.
 This is a rare opportunity to hear one of the best in the industry talk about their craft.

Graduate News: BAFTA win for Alumnus Justin Davies

A coupe of weeks ago the Red Alert team included a news item about AFTRS alumnus Justin Davis (BA Cinematography, 1996) being nominated for BAFTA Awards for his work on a number of projects for the BBC in London, where he know lives and works, and we are delighted to share the news that last weekend Justin picked up a BAFTA for New Media for his work on Psychoville.

St Kilda Film Festival wrap up

We had a great day at the St Kilda Film Festival industry Open day on Saturday and a big hello to the people we met and spoke to there…

We also are delighted to share the news that AFTRS alumnus Amy Gebhardt (MA Directing, 2006) was the winner of the CRAFT AWARD for Into the Sun.

Congratulations Amy and to all of the AFTRS people nominated for this year’s St Kilda Film Festival awards.

AFTRS FM2: Live and streaming this week

From Friday June 1 you will be able to catch the 2012 AFTRS Commercial Radio Broadcasting students daily on air from 8am – 7pm, through to June 8, during their latest live broadcast: FM2 where you can catch the sounds & stories of AFTRS, interspersed with music from the 70′s to now – all produced and presented by the students as they ready themselves to enter the commercial broadcasting industry later this year.
